Announcement: I POSTED A BUNCH OF PHOTOS from a trip I took to New Orleans in May of 2006 to flickr.com. They are located here. I had a wonderful time visiting and would encourage anyone to do so; the economy in New Orleans was tourism driven before the Katrina calamity and (like New York after 9-11) the city needs visitors so people who aren't already displaced can continue to live there. I would heartily recommend The Green House as an excellent place to stay; the pool is a tropical paradise and the owner is a swell guy with great advice for having a good time in the city (the B&B is gay and straight friendly). I'd like to plug a charity, the Music Maker Relief Foundation, which has created the New Orleans Musicians Fund as a heartfelt response to the devastating impact of Hurricane Katrina on the lives of musicians in the Gulf region. Music Maker has a history of supporting musicians in financial distress and after Katrina has raised money to help New Orleans musicians to rebuild their lives. -Miguel |
